The value of food – Why eat?

We must eat to live, but we must also eat to live well, if we wish to function well. Every food has a purpose and no one food can suffice. Just as nature supply a variety of foods,  so too,  we should choose from a variety of foods, fruits, vegetables, grains, protein foods, dairy, fats and oils and water etc., so that working together they keep our bodies running well.  We will highlight the contribution of individual foods to our well-being so that while we enjoy food,  we get a true appreciation of its value to us, so we select carefully.

Food Safety

Most foods by nature are vulnerable to spoilage and contamination from the air, water, soil equipment, tools, human beings and general surroundings. What good is the tastiest dish most attractively prepared if it makes you sick after you eat it? We will share information on keeping foods safe with every day simple commonsense things that we generally don’t think about. How to cook it, store it, serve it etc., to keep your delicious creations from harming you.

Fine Dining

Why not treat yourself  to a fine dining experience in your own home . You can do so quickly and easily with items that are widely available in stores or that you already have. We will provide guidance on table setting, serving and presentation etc. A simple fine dining experience at home will do much to lift your spirits and keep it high. Try it!

Food As medicine

Food as medicine has been known to man for ages, from biblical times to the present. Revelation 22:2  tells us that “ in the middle of the city are the trees of life producing fruit 12 times; once each month, the leaves of which are for healing the nations, ” and Hippocrates  the Greek physician who Lived around 460–370 BC and considered the “father of Medicine” proclaimed then, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”. History is full of stories and examples in the past, where food was used in the prevention and cure of diseases.  In recent years there has been and explosion of research to further knowledge and understanding of the health benefits of food.  Governments at all levels and major institutions are implementing programs to help us realize these benefits.  This site will bring you a continuous stream of information on the role that food plays in in keeping us healthy.
