Green Beans With Toasted Almonds
I love green beans with almonds. It,s nutritious and delicious. Did you know that green beans have a higher % of water than milk? Hard to believe, but the water is trapped in the intricate structure of the beans, while the solids in milk are not so visible. What can water do for you? Approximately 60% of our bodies is water which serves mainly as the transport system to carry nourishment to all areas of the body and remove waste. So consider green beans when trying to meet your water intake goal.
RECIPE
Slivered almonds, Butter or Margarine or Olive oil or desired fat
Method
Sort green beans, discard any defective beans, cut off the tips and wash thoroughly. Place water in a saucepan about 2 inches in depth. Bring the water to a rapid boil. Place the green beans in the pot or in a steamer basket, making sure that the water level is below the basket. Keep the water boiling rapidly and let steam until the beans reach the desired texture. When beans reach the desired doneness, transfer them immediately to the serving dish.
Sautéed Almonds
Add one or 2 tablespoons of the desired fat to a heated frying pan over low to medium heat. When fat is heated add the slivered blanched almonds. Stir until the almonds become light brown in color. Sprinkle Sautéed Almonds over the cooked green beans. Serve hot.
